In 1995, the Alaska Legislature amended the sentence appeal statute, AS 12.55.120, to place certain restrictions on criminal defendants' right to appeal sentences of imprisonment. See 1995 SLA, ch. 79, §§ 7-8. These restrictions became effective on July 1, 1995. See id., § 45.
