Mary Jane Hathaway sued her employer, Marvin Runyon, Postmaster General, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq., claiming sexual harassment and discriminatory retaliation. The jury found for Hathaway on the sexual harassment claim and awarded her $75,000 in compensatory damages, but it found for Runyon on the retaliation claim.
