CHAVEZ, Justice.

On November 6, 1997 we dismissed this appeal because there was no timely order granting a new trial in the record. Appellants' motion for rehearing is now before us. We deny the motion for rehearing, and issue this opinion to further explain our reasons for dismissing the appeal.
