Defendant Marion Perlmutter hired plaintiff, Carolyn Phinney, as a senior research associate at the Institute of Gerontology (IOG) at the University of Michigan. At the time, Perlmutter was a research scientist at the IOG, and defendant Richard Adelman was the Director of the Institute. Plaintiff accused Perlmutter of stealing her research.
