We reverse defendant's conviction because of the improper exclusion of evidence and remand for a new trial.

First, it was error to sustain the state's objection during the cross-examination of the witness Dunn as to discrepancies between her initial statement to the police at the time of the events and her trial testimony. The court thereby precluded any questioning as to a material matter that Dunn omitted in her initial statement to police...
