This suit arises out of a promissory note executed by plaintiffs-in-reconvention, Michael Eugene Smith and Virginia Ann Spillers Smith (the Smiths), on November 6, 1989. On June 23, 1993, the defendants-in-reconvention, First National Bank, Bienville Parish (the Bank), filed suit to collect the balance due on the note for the Smiths' failure to make payments.
