This appeal arises from a personal injury case in which a pedestrian was struck by an automobile as he was attempting to cross a highway.

On January 22, 1985, plaintiff, Charles A. Couvillion, was employed by PALA, Inc., a contractor performing work on a turnaround at Borden chemical plant in Ascension Parish.
