In this joint trial, defendant Sherry Almond Vanhoy was tried capitally for the first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation to commit murder of George Adam Vanhoy. The jury returned verdicts of guilty on all charges. After a capital sentencing proceeding pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 15A-2000, the jury failed to find the existence of the sole aggravating circumstance submitted and recommended a sentence of life imprisonment.
