In response to questioning by a police officer, appellant, Andrew Ahitow, gave a false account of his whereabouts during the time some newspaper vending machines had been knocked over. On the basis of this response, he was charged with and convicted of violating Iowa Code section 718.6 (1993), prohibiting false reports to law enforcement authorities.
