On 27 June 1993, Delores Joyner Exum was stabbed to death by her estranged husband, the defendant, Ricky Carlton Exum, after an altercation at their home. Defendant was indicted for first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and common law attempted murder, which was ultimately dismissed by the State.
