Defendant, Melvin R. White, was charged by bill of information with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a violation of La. R.S. 14:95.1. After trial by jury, defendant was convicted as charged. The trial court sentenced defendant to imprisonment at hard labor for a term of five and one-half years, without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence and with credit for time served.
