From 1983, until his arrest in October, 1992, the defendant lived at home with his wife and family; two children, Ashley and John,1 were ten and five years old at the time of trial. In October, 1992, Ashley told an investigator from the Department of Social Services that both parents had sexually abused her and her younger brother over a period of years.
