Burton Higham hired someone he believed to be a hitman (actually, an undercover FBI agent) to kill his business partner, hoping to collect on a life insurance policy. A jury convicted him on charges that he used the mail in the commission of a murder-for-hire scheme (18 U.S.C. § 1958(a)) and committed mail fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1341). The district judge ordered him to serve a prison term of 120 months on the murder-for-hire...
