The plaintiff, Elisabeth Anderson, brought the present action in the circuit court of Cook County against defendants, Ronald Vanden Dorpel and Northwestern University. Vanden Dorpel was Anderson's supervisor at Northwestern and allegedly made defamatory remarks about her to a prospective employer.
