Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant, James Munson, was convicted of first degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery and arson of property of Marvin Cheeks. (Ill.Rev.Stat. 1991, ch. 38, pars. 9-1(a), 10-2(a)(5), 18-2(a), 20-1(a).)
