In March 1995, plaintiff, Douglas Gist, sued defendants, the Decatur Herald and Review (Decatur Herald), TCI Cablevision of Decatur (TCI), and the Macon County Sheriff's Department, for defamation. Plaintiff based his suit on a Crime Stoppers' "Most Wanted Fugitives" flyer which the sheriff's department compiled and the Decatur Herald distributed.
