Appellant Walter Carter was charged with the capital murder of Charles Mettler, the burglary of Mettler's residence, and the battery of Carter's wife, Denise, who was present at Mettler's house at the time of the killing. Carter raised the insanity defense, but the jury convicted him of the capital murder and burglary charges, and Carter was sentenced respectively to life imprisonment without parole and twenty years.1<...
