LAGARDE, Justice.

Daniel Hernandez a/k/a Antonio Gonzales1 appeals his conviction in a jury trial for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, to-wit: cocaine in an amount less than one gram. The jury assessed punishment, enhanced by two prior felonies, at life. Appellant contends that his sentence exceeds the statutory maximum for the offense for which he was convicted.
