This is an appeal of the simple burglary conviction and sentence of the defendant, Ben 0. Hayes. The defendant was convicted by a jury of simple burglary on March 27, 1995, and immediately, after waiving the delays for sentencing, was sentenced to twelve (12) years at hard labor plus payment of court costs. The defendant was provided counsel during voir dire, but was not represented by counsel during his trial, which resulted in his conviction...
