Appellant Evelyn Long was tried on felony charges of attempted second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault for stabbing her husband, David Long, on November 9, 1994. Minn.Stat. §§ 609.17; .19(1); .221;.222, subd. 2 (1994). During trial, over both parties' objections, the court sua sponte ordered a mistrial.
