The appellant, James Ross Leonard, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of marijuana in the first degree. He was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. His sentence was split pursuant to the Alabama Split Sentence Act, and he was required to serve one year in prison, followed by a five-year period of probation.
