I.

INTRODUCTION

Geraldine Cleary brings this action against Knapp Shoes, Inc. ("Knapp") under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act ("ERISA"), 29 U.S.C.A. 1132(a)(1)(B) (West 1985), seeking to recover medical expenses incurred as a result of her March 6, 1992 cerebral vascular accident. Cleary contends that Knapp's decision to deny her benefits was arbitrary and capricious.
