The complainant in this case, William Madden, was attacked in his hotel room after answering a knock on the door. Following a struggle with his attacker, Madden was briefly rendered unconscious. When he awoke, he discovered that his wallet and keys were missing. Madden saw the assailant attempt to unlock Madden's car.
