In a 1991 decision of the former Workers' Compensation Commission, United Engineers & Constructors was permitted to offset its obligation to pay weekly workers' compensation benefits to its employee, Norman LaPointe, by the payments that LaPointe received pursuant to a Massachusetts decree. After LaPointe obtained a lump-sum settlement of his claim against his Massachusetts employer, the Workers' Compensation Board granted LaPointe's petition...
