OPINION

GARDEBRING, Justice.

In this case we are asked to consider whether, in the context of a legal malpractice action, emotional distress damages are available where an arbitrator makes a finding of negligent representation. Because we determine that the court of appeals' affirmance of the award is contrary to prior case law, we reverse.
