In August 1989, A.G. Weldon suffered compensable injuries when he was rear-ended in a company van owned by Voss Heating and Air Conditioning. He received medical treatment and in 1990 underwent lumbar surgery, resulting in restrictions on lifting and preventing a return to his job with Voss.
