In 1973, a class of private plaintiffs and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") brought two civil rights actions against the Newspaper and Mail Deliverers' Union of New York and Vicinity (the "NMDU") and more than fifty news publishers and distributors within the NMDU's jurisdiction.
