The defendant, Alvin G. Long, pled guilty to once count of Class II misdemeanor theft under Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-518(4) (Cum.Supp. 1994). The State unsuccessfully attempted to enhance this crime to a Class IV felony under § 28-518(6) by three prior theft convictions, one a Class IV felony and two Class I misdemeanors.
