On January 23, 1995, Governor Christine Todd Whitman, in her Budget in Brief, outlined a plan to save 6.7 million dollars by reducing the workweek of approximately 1/2 or 1,800 of the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP or Department) employees by eliminating their 40 hour a week positions and moving them into 35 hour a week positions instead. The savings would be derived from employee pay reductions...
