After a jury trial, defendant, Kevin Chatman, was convicted of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in violation of section 24-1.1(a) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill.Rev. Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 24-1.1(a) (now 720 ILCS 5/24-1.1(a) (West 1994))) and sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment for that crime.
