In January, 1991, the Grand Jury indicted Johnny Ray Johnson for the crimes of simple assault on two law enforcement officers, J.K. Webb and Keith Burnett, while the officers were acting within the scope of their duties, in violation of Miss. Code Ann. § 97-3-7(a) (Supp. 1991).
