James Roberson was convicted of malice murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. He was tried jointly with his sister, Lisa Reyes, who was convicted of felony murder.1 In these appeals, defendants primarily assert that they were interviewed at the jail by the news media in violation of their right to counsel.
