Elizabeth Bahr, as personal representative of the estate of her son, Brian, obtained a substantial general verdict against Harper-Grace Hospitals for the medical malpractice of its interns, residents, and nurses.

The Court of Appeals reversed1 because Bahr failed to show that plaintiff's expert witness, Eric Neilson, M.D., was familiar with the standard of care for interns and residents in Detroit or "similar communities...
