Defendant was indicted for the 2 January 1987 murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon of Woodrow F. Hartley. He was tried capitally at the 18 April 1988 Criminal Session of Superior Court, Cabarrus County, and was found guilty of both crimes. The jury recommended a sentence of death for the murder, and the trial court sentenced defendant accordingly.
