This is an appeal from the sentence following a guilty plea to one count of an eight count indictment. The defendant Edward Mahaffey and a friend, Linda Bressette, were charged with conspiracy to manufacture methcathinone, a Schedule I controlled substance, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1). Mahaffey was also charged with the substantive offense of possession of a "precursor chemical" with knowledge that it would be used to manufacture...
