Defendant, Anthony Robinson, was convicted of armed robbery (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 18-2) and armed violence (Ill.Rev. Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 33A-2) following a jury trial in Cook County. At his sentencing hearing, the court adjudged defendant to be a habitual criminal and sentenced him to life imprisonment pursuant to the Habitual Criminal Act (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 33B-1 et seq.).
