David A. Bollinger ("Bollinger") was convicted of two counts of murder in the first degree for killing Rose and James Vertrees ("the Vertreeses"), two counts of kidnapping, two counts of robbery, and one count of burglary. Bollinger, and possibly an accomplice identified as Tom Johnston ("Johnston"), robbed the Vertreeses in their motor home in Reno.
