On November 18, 1993, appellant James May was indicted for the second degree murder of Michael Ranson. He was arraigned on November 22 and pleaded not guilty. On February 23, 1994, a twelve-member jury found him guilty as charged. His motion for new trial was filed and denied on April 11, 1994; on that date, he was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
