Steven George was charged by bill of information with one count of aggravated battery and one count of theft of merchandise valued at five hundred dollars or more. On the day of trial, the State amended the bill, reducing the theft charge to attempted theft of merchandise valued at one hundred dollars or more but less than five hundred dollars.
