On November 19, 1992, defendant, Johnny Phillips, was charged by grand jury indictment with the second degree murder of Ronald Petit, in violation of LSA-R.S. 14.30.1. He was arraigned on December 21, 1992 and entered a plea of not guilty. After a jury trial on the merits, the defendant was found guilty as charged on May 2, 1994. On June 3, 1994 he was sentenced to imprisonment at hard labor for a term of life, without benefit of parole, probation...
