We granted certiorari to review the Court of Appeal's decision in Roche v. Young Brothers, Inc. ___ S.C. ___, 437 S.E.2d 560 (Ct.App.1993). We reverse the Court of Appeals and reinstate the entry of default by the clerk of court for Florence County under Rule 55(a), SCRCP. We reverse the trial judge's denial of a new hearing on damages.
