Oliver Maize (defendant) was originally charged by grand jury indictment with first degree murder, LSA-R.S. 14:30. Subsequently, the charge was amended to second degree murder, LSA-R.S. 14:30.1.1 He pled not guilty and, after trial by jury, was found guilty as charged. Defendant received the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor, without benefit of parole, probation...
