James Ricker, Jr. (plaintiff), injured his teeth and jaw in an automobile accident on April 26, 1987. He was admitted to Slidell Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (SMH)1 for emergency treatment. Dr. Aynaud F. Hebert (defendant), an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist, or ENT), was called by SMH to treat plaintiff and performed surgery on plaintiff.
