Defendant, British Lamont Walker, was charged by bill of information with distribution of cocaine, a violation of La.R.S. 40:967(A)(1). He pled not guilty and, after trial by jury, was convicted as charged. Subsequently, the state charged him as a habitual offender. See La.R.S. 15:529.1. After a hearing, the trial court found defendant to be a second felony habitual offender and sentenced him to serve a term of fifty years imprisonment at hard...
