The bludgeoned body of Marianne Freeman was found in her residence in the Town of Gardiner, Ulster County, on May 6, 1991. On May 14, 1991, defendant went to the Town of New Paltz Police Department after being informed by a friend that the State Police wanted to speak to him about Freeman's homicide.
