STAPLETON, Circuit Judge:

Jackson Robinson killed Stedley Joseph on March 10, 1993 with a two-by-four he picked up while they were fighting. Robinson was tried in the District Court of the Virgin Islands for first degree murder. The jury convicted Robinson of the lesser-included offense of voluntary manslaughter.
