Defendant, Scott Bourque, was indicted for the second degree murder of Jasper Fontenot which occurred on the night of Easter Sunday, April 15, 1990, at the "Barn Lounge" in Gueydan, Louisiana. Defendant's first jury trial in Vermilion Parish ended in a mistrial during jury selection because most of the veniremen knew either the defendant, the victim, or their families, and a fair and impartial jury could not be selected.
