Leon Jones, a state prisoner who was convicted of attempted murder, attempted robbery and aggravated battery, filed a petition for habeas corpus in the district court. On appeal Jones raises two claims. He argues that the prosecution withheld material exculpable evidence which suggests that his firearm might have been inoperable, in violation of Brady v. Maryland,
