Paulino C. Aldape, an inmate confined at the Iowa State Penitentiary, commenced an action against the acting warden of the institution, Paul Hedgepeth, and two correctional officers, John Lambert and James Pezley. He alleged that defendants Lambert and Pezley had violated his Eighth Amendment right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment. Aldape further alleged that Hedgepeth had directed Lambert and Pezley to seize his legal files...
