This case involves the calculation of a surviving spouse's share upon the renunciation of her deceased husband's will pursuant to section 2-8(a) of the Probate Act of 1975. (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 110½, par. 2-8(a).) The pertinent facts are as follows.
